A number of Dutch building lodges that have diverse functions can now be enjoyed grandeur. Small lodges, lodge Large, Kebon lodge lodge even Satan, all presenting their own historical narrative.
For hundreds of years inhabit Indonesia, including Yogyakarta, the Netherlands leaving a number of historic buildings. Buildings by the
residents of Yogyakarta is often called the lodge because of its large size with a large yard. Some lodges heritage that can now be enjoyed its beauty with little cost, just down the downtown area of Yogyakarta, starting from the intersection of Post Office or the kilometer 0.
The oldest lodge in Yogyakarta is located right across from Post Office, which is a building that is now named Vredeburg. Building the fort which is often called the Great or lodge lodge was built in Gede 1776 - 1778, just two years ago after the founding of the Palace Ngayogyakarta, one fraction of the Mataram kingdom. The fortress was originally named Rustenburg was intentionally built in the axis of the Palace - The monument in order to control the movements of the Palace.
As a fortress, Great lodge area is equipped with various supporting buildings, such as surveillance and the resting place for the soldiers. During the Great lodge is still used as a fortress, there is a cannon that accidentally directed into the Palace in the shooting standby position so as to facilitate the attack. This was done in order for the Kingdom to admit that the Dutch have the power.
Now, you can down every corner of the lodge because the area had been opened to the public. In addition to building the fort which has a distinctive European design, you can also see a diorama of Indonesia's struggle for independence. The weird thing of this fort is the name does not fit the image of a fortress, Rust means the rest, vrede means peace and burg means fortress. Rustenberg which means fortress resting Vredeburg meaning citadel of peace are not the right name.
From Vredeburg, a lodge of the most visible is Kebon lodge, now known as the Great House. With European style building was built in 1824 and used as the Residence Building. Page Loji Kebon very spacious and decorated with statues gathered officials from around the Dutch city of Yogyakarta. 1912, Kebon lodge complex is equipped with a building Societeit de Vereniging, Dutch officials place to dance to the accompaniment of a violin.
Like the Great lodge, lodge Kebon was also a witness to history. A building designed Payen was stopped because the Java War in 1825 - 1830 which almost makes the Dutch government went bankrupt. During the Period of Japan, this building became the residence of Japanese officers named Koochi Zimmukyoku Tyookan. Similarly, since the capital was moved to Yogyakarta Indonesia January 6, 1946, this building became the presidential palace. Until now, though the capital of Indonesia to Jakarta, this building still serves the presidential palace.
Regions other lodges are small lodge located on the east Vredeburg now, fixed region until almost the intersection Gondomanan Shopping. Unlike the big lodge that serves as a fortress and small lodge that serves as a government building, Small lodge serves as a residential area. Now, even though only a few left, you can still enjoy some old buildings, one of them is located in the Smart Park complex. In that area there are also building Militair Societet formerly used as a place to relax Dutch army soldiers.
Regions small lodge is the center of a residential area of the first Dutch in Yogyakarta. A number of supporting facilities now also can enjoy the beauty, for example Protestansche Kerk church that was built in 1857 (now the Christian Church Marga Mulya, located north of the Great House) and Kudul Loji Francis Xavier Church (old building) which was established in 1870, located next to Small lodge southern region.
One area the other lodges that are not less interesting is the lodge of Satan. So named because the building, which until now unknown in the building was known as haunted. Many people say, in the east room and the hall was often heard voices of people for help and the sound of dance music accompaniment. The building which now serves as the office of parliament, according to a story Raffles had visited the Governor General on 15 May 1812, when the Dutch had been in power in Yogyakarta.
Lodges Satan since some time has a variety of functions. In the past, the building was often used for meditation and as a place of exhibition space, such as exhibitions by Luch Bescherming Dienst in 1940. Post-Independence, the building that was originally named Loji Marlborough was used as the office of the National Committee of Indonesia (1945 - 1949), the office of the State Defense Council and the implementation of Cabinet (1948).
